Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (1863–1923) was a Spanish painter who excelled in painting portraits, landscapes and monumental works of social and historical themes. His most typical works are characterized by a skillful depiction of the people and landscape under the bright Spanish sunlight and sunlit water. Sorolla's influence on some other Spanish painters has been so noted that they are referred to as "Sorollista".
