Joseph Mallord William Turner

Joseph Mallord William Turner was an English painter, watercolorist and illustrator. He is considered the most important visual artist in England in the Romantic era. Landscapes and seascapes were his favorite subjects, and he was particularly interested in light and atmosphere. Because his style of representation went so far as to dematerialize the representational and he made the light and color of sunlight, fire and water the actual subject of his pictures in a completely new way, he strongly influenced the Impressionists.
