Joan Miró i Ferrà (1893–1983) was a Barcelona-born Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramist. His work has been internationally recognized and interpreted as surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious, a recreation of the childlike and a manifestation of Catalan pride. In numerous interviews from the 1930s onwards, Miró expressed contempt for conventional painting methods in support of bourgeois society.
