Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) was a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. A celebrator of beauty and particularly female sensuality, it has been said that "Renoir is the last exponent of a tradition that leads directly from Rubens to Watteau." Renoir's paintings are characterized by vivid light and saturated colors.
